10 Bold Predictions for the 2017 NFL Season

We’re just days away from the start of the 2017 NFL Season, with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs squaring off to open the season on Thursday night. I’ve already released my 2017 NFL Predictions so it’s time to be bold. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for the 2017 NFL Season.

***NOTE: As they are “Bold Predictions,” not all of them correlate with my 2017 NFL Predictions***

  1. The Dallas Cowboys will miss the Playoffs. Coming off a 13-3 season, the Cowboys are riding high. Even with Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension, many, including me, are predicting the Cowboys to return to the playoffs. But what if that’s not the case. Even if Elliott doesn’t miss a game, he and Dak Prescott are bound to take a step back in year two, and with a defense that’s going to be a sieve, the Dallas Cowboys might be on the outside looking in come January.
  2. Andrew Luck will not play a single game in 2017. Luck is already expected to miss Week One, and as he just started throwing, the former No. 1 overall pick should miss at least another few weeks. But by the time Luck returns fully healthy, the Colts could already be out of the playoff hunt. Scott Tolzien and Jacoby Brissett aren’t going to cut it, and if the Colts are 0-5 when Luck returns, it might make sense just to save him for 2018, especially with the Colts’ putrid offensive line.
  3. Jimmy Garroppolo will be traded. So far, Bill Belichick has held onto Garroppolo, a free agent at the end of the season, but if Tom Brady plays another 4-5 years, what’s the point? The Patriots aren’t going to pay Garroppolo the big money he wants at the end of this season, so instead, they trade him for a much-needed pass rusher just before the NFL’s Trade Deadline.
  4. For the first time since 2001, DeShone Kizer will be the only QB to start a game in Cleveland. Kizer won the starting job and while the odds are against him holding onto it for the entire season, Hue Jackson and co. need to figure out what they have in Kizer, especially with three special QB prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. That means Kizer should start all 16 games for the Browns, no matter their final record at the end of the season.
  5. The Panthers’ Super Bowl Hangover will continue in 2017. After falling to the Broncos in Super Bowl L, the Panthers fell apart and finished 6-10 in 2016. And while many are projecting a bounceback season from Cam Newton and co. in 2017, don’t buy it. The Panthers did little to shore up their offensive line and with their defense, another year older, another 6-8 win season is in store down in Charlotte.
  6. Teddy Bridgewater will end the season as the Vikings’ starting QB. Bridgewater suffered a gruesome training camp injury in 2016 and has been out of the picture ever since. Recently placed on the PUP list though, Bridgewater is eligible to return to practice by mid-October. Sam Bradford certainly isn’t the answer in Minnesota and when cleared, Bridgewater should win the starting job back, and give Vikings’ fans hope for 2018.
  7. Jared Goff will lead the Rams to respectability. For months, Goff was railed on after a terrible rookie season. But there’s a reason why Goff was the No. 1 overall pick. With Jeff Fisher out and Sean McVey in, Goff will prove his doubters wrong, and along with a top-notch defense led by Aaron Donald, will lead Los Angeles’ to respectability, even though their 2017 record might not show it.
  8. Josh Gordon will be reinstated and plays 8 games for the Browns. There have been rumblings of a potential late-September reinstatement for Gordon, and supposedly he’s finally on the mend. The Browns still need help at WR and a talent like Gordon would be a huge addition. It’ll take a few weeks from him to see the field after being reinstated, whenever that may be, but I just have an inkling that’ll we’ll see Gordon back on the field in Orange and Brown at some point in 2017.
  9. Chuck Pagano is the first Head Coach fired. Todd Bowles may have the hottest seat in the NFL, but the Jets are overtly taking. The Colts, on the other hand, just hired a new GM and are rebuilding. Even if Luck doesn’t see the field, Chris Ballard will want to see some strides from Pagano’s squad, and when he doesn’t, Pagano will be the first coach to be canned so Ballard can bring in his own guy for 2018.
  10. The Top 3 Picks in the 2018 NFL Draft will all be Quarterbacks. The NFL has become a quarterback-driven league. And with three high-end quarterback prospects potentially in the 2018 NFL Draft, teams like the New York Jets are already jockeying for position atop the draft. With a number of QB-needy teams heading into 2018, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen will go 1, 2 and 3 in the 2018 NFL Draft, and odds are, 1-2 more will go in the first round.
